An educational resource for students, youth groups, or anyone wanting to explore the epic journey of the Voyage of Discovery.
The L & C collection is a series of 9 trunks separated thematically to reflect 9 different aspects of the Expedition.These 9 areas are:
- Animal Parts -- hides, antlers, dung from various wildlife encountered during the Expedition.
- Native American Artifact Replicas -- Replicas of Native American artifacts
- Captain Clark's Trunk -- Trade goods and navigation equipment
- Private Shannon & Everyday Military Life -- Items used for everyday survival
- Botannicals Trunk -- plants samples gathered along the journey
- Medicine & Chemicals -- medical instruments & chemicals
- Patrick Gass Woodworking Tools
- John Shields Metalworking Tools
- Food Provisions Trunk
Reserving the Trunks:
- Two business days notice required. Call the library (208.743-6519) or send email.
- Trunks can be picked up at the library or shipped to outlying areas at borrower's expense.
- No deposit is required and no fee is charged for use of the trunks. Borrrower is responsible for damages or lost items.
- A library staff member will come to present the trunks if given sufficient notice.

Based on the Ken Burns documentary film, this site includes an interactive trail map, historical maps created by Clark, unedited interviews with experts featured on the film, and a searchable, chronological compilation of excerpts from the journals of the Corps of Discovery members.
Discovering Lewis and Clark
Conceived in 1993, and online since 1998, Discovering Lewis & Clark is a hyperhistory in progress. It is enhanced by at least one new interpretive episode each month, employing a variety of multmedia techniques. It focuses on issues, values and visions relating to the Lewis & Clark Expedition, its preludes, and its aftermath up to the present time.

Lewis & Clark Trail Heritage Foundation
This foundation was incorporated in 1969 to preserve the story of the Lewis and Clark Expedition and the route it traveled, through the journal We Proceeded On , a curriculum guide entitled An American Legacy: The Lewis and Clark Expedition and the William P. Sherman Library and Archives which is the only research library in the country devoted solely to the Lewis and Clark Expedition and related topics.
